Jordan Peele continues the social horror movie thriller genre with Us, which arrives in March.
Jordan Peele will be taking another plunge into the sunken place for his next film. The Get Out director recently announced that his next film will be called Us. The film will star Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and Elisabeth Moss.
Peele, who won an Oscar for shedding a light on hidden racial horrors as writer and director of Get Out, will write and direct the new film, his second overall in that capacity. Us will be produced by Ian Cooper and Peele for Monkeypaw Productions alongside Sean McKittrick and Jason Blum.
There are only sparse details, but we were at a presentation with Jordan Peele in December where he explained that the film is pivotally about a black family, led by Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke, but it isn’t about race. Instead it is about… monsters.

Us is scheduled to arrive on March 22, one week later than originally planned. However, it will be the opening night film at this year’s SXSW on March 8 before that.

Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther, Oscar winner of 12 Years a Slave) leads the film as Adelaide Wilson, the mother of a family living on the West coast. She is raising her children with Winston Duke (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War), when monsters follow them home. The rest of the family unit is played by newcomers Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex as the children of the piece.
Elisabeth Moss, who currently stars on Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, is also cast in the film as a friend of the family. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, The Greatest Showman) is also onboard in a mysterious role.
The very basic synopsis is this:
A mother and father take their kids to their beach house, expecting to enjoy time with friends, but their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some visitors arrive uninvited.
However, we were at a presentation hosted by Peele where he shined (a little) more light on what this means by revealing that while the film is not about race, it is about what he considers an undeniable truth.
“I dedicated a lot of myself to create a new horror mythology and a new monster. I think that monsters and stories about monsters are one of our best ways of getting at deeper truths and facing our fears as a society,” Peele said. He also added:
“Very important for me was to have a black family at the center of a horror film. But it’s also important to note that this movie, unlike Get Out, is not about race. It is instead about something that I feel has become an undeniable truth, and that is the simple fact that we are our own worst enemies.”

A new Us poster has arrived, this one far more provocative than the vague, Rorschach-esque previous release. Your eyes will undoubtedly first focus on the pair of golden scissors wielded menacingly by a mystery person, notably sporting a single glove that, most likely, is not a tribute to a certain late King of Pop. Moreover, even the reddish jumpsuit outfit sported by the figure seems to tease an element of the story.
