Cara Delevingne and Selena Gomez are set to play each other’s love interests in the upcoming season of Only Murders in the Building.
As massive fans of the mega-popular Hulu mystery comedy series Only Murders In The Building, you are in for a treat with an addition of a new character played by a talented actress. Only Murders In The Building is a TV series about three neighbors obsessed with murder stories and true crime podcasts. The three neighbors include highly acclaimed actors Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin. Their lives become intertwined with a shocking murder that took place in their building. The trio uses their “expertise” to get to the bottom of this crime.
The show is due to return with its second season on June 28, 2022, as stated by the co-creator and showrunner of the series John Hoffman in an interview with Vanity Fair. The first season ended with a massive cliffhanger. While the trio will continue to solve another murder mystery, the addition of Selena Gomez’s character, Mabel’s love interest, is someone we are all excited to see.
Hulu’s synopsis for season 2 states:
“Following the shocking death of Arconia Board President Bunny Folger, Charles, Oliver & Mabel race to unmask her killer. However, three (unfortunate) complications ensue — the trio is publicly implicated in Bunny’s homicide, they are now the subjects of a competing podcast, and they have to deal with a bunch of New York neighbors who all think they committed murder.”
With Only Murders In The Building season 2 approaching so quickly, many new details have emerged about this season. This season, we will see Cara Delevingne and Selena Gomez playing love interests. The news of Delevingne joining the cast of the second season of Only Murders In The Building as a series regular was announced back in December 2021. Along with the announcement, details about her character were revealed. Delevingne will be playing the role of Alice, and she’s described as a “sophisticated art world insider who becomes enmeshed in the mystery,” as reported by Deadline.
As Vanity Fair gave us an exclusive look into Hulu’s murder mystery upcoming series, it was revealed that Alice would be playing Mabel’s love interest. In the same report, it was said that when the two characters meet, Alice “puts Mabel in touch with a side of herself she’s been somewhat neglecting since the show began.”
“It was amazing to have the two of them know each other and feel comfortable,” showrunner John Hoffman told Vanity Fair. “It’s a little sparky in all the right ways that makes you feel like, ‘Oh, someone’s opening someone’s world.”
Fans have constantly dubbed Delevingne and Gomez as “Caralena.” The duo have been friends for a long time and are also a part of the infamous Taylor Swift “girl squad.” Since the two have been extremely close, there have always been rumors that the duo has been in a romantic relationship since 2014.
In an interview, Selena Gomez, who’s also the executive producer of the show, did hint that she may have pushed for Cara to be cast for the role of Alice in the second season. When she was asked if she had anything to do with Delevingne being added to the cast, Gomez replied, “Well, they actually wanted her, and then I was just like, giving them a little push.” In an interview with Extra TV, Gomez said that Cara was “so fun” and that they “were just dying laughing most of the time because we just know each other so well.”
The duo further fueled those romance rumors when they took their friendship to the next level by getting matching tattoos. Bang Bang Tattoo Studio in New York posted pictures of watercolor-style tattoos of a pink rose. The photos the studio posted shows the tattoo on Gomez’s back which showcased the pink rose tattoo with dripping ink. On the other hand, Cara’s tattoo is on the right side of her torso, right below a Roman numeral tattoo.
The second season of Only Murders In The Building will see not only the addition of Cara Delevingne but also Amy Schumer. Schumer is set to play an extremely unbearable version of herself, who may or may not have stolen a million dollars worth of Bunny’s painting. Shirley MacLaine will play the mother of Arconia’s board president. “She’s 88 now and as sharp as they come,” Hoffman said. “The beautiful thing for me was Steve saying, before she arrived, ‘I cannot believe I’m going to get to do things with Shirley MacLaine.’ Then he went on and on about seeing her when he was young. That really moved me.”
The second season of Only Murders in the Building premieres on Hulu on June 28, 2022.
