Olympic gold-medalist and Dancing with the Stars contestant Ryan Lochte will be seeking help for alcohol addiction following a drunken altercation in Newport Beach, California.
According to
TMZ, Lochte tried to kick down his own hotel room’s door while inebriated at around 3:00 on Thursday morning. Hotel security came to the scene, and they in turn called the police. No arrests were made, but the incident resulted in Lochte deciding to seek treatment. His agent Jeff Ostrow told TMZ, “Ryan has been battling alcohol addiction for many years and unfortunately it has become a destructive pattern for him.” Ostrow adds of the incident, “It was a minor nothing, but what matters most is Ryan is getting the help he needs.”
Lochte also faced police action in 2016 when he vandalized a gas station while intoxicated and filed a fake police report during the Rio Olympics.
