A new Only Murders in the Building season 2 trailer debuted, and it looks to be just as packed with intrigue and charm as season 1.
With the next season of Hulu's Only Murders in the Building fast approaching, fans are itching to know what sorts of fine messes the plucky trio of true crime podcasters have gotten themselves into this time. Thanks to a new trailer, the picture of what to expect has finally become clearer, and in true mystery tradition, it's brought up several new questions in the process.
Fans of the show have a lot to look forward to, especially after Only Murders in the Building announced several new and returning characters for its second season. Based on the new trailer from Hulu, it looks as though they're all going to be more than just a few cameos, with everybody around them suddenly becoming a suspect once again. Season 1 ended with the main characters solving one murder only to be apparently framed for another. Now, between old grudges and new faces, it looks as though anyone could be responsible.
The first trailer for Only Murders in the Building season 2 already teased the trio's return to podcasting and crime-solving, but this time, things have become a bit more clear. The new trailer features glimpses at all the new characters, including Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets star Cara Delevingne as gallery owner and Mabel's love interest Alice and even film legend Shirley MacLaine as the mother of the victim. Also shown are returning stars Nathan Lane as Teddy Dimas and Amy Ryan as Jan, both of whom have ample reasons to hold a grudge against the murder-solving friends. Michael Rappaport makes an appearance as Detective Kreps, with Amy Schumer briefly showing up as her new character as well, all intercut with Mabel stating, "We need to find the real killer."
Only Murders in the Building stars Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short as former TV star Charles-Haden Savage, artist Mabel Mora, and struggling stage director Oliver Putnam, respectively. The 3 unlikely friends found themselves bonding over a mutual love for a true-crime podcast, inspiring them to begin their own to solve a murder that took place in their shared apartment building. After a number of dead-end leads and a few burnt bridges, they found the killer just in time to become the center of another investigation. Luckily, fans won't have to wait too long before the Only Murders in the Building the season 2 premiere date.
The show combines cozy mystery with genuine suspense and a satisfying amount of humor, particularly thanks to comedy icons Short and Martin in 2 of the lead roles. Based on the new trailer, it looks as though that idea is still in full force, notably during the shot where Short's Oliver frantically yells, "Why am I holding this knife?!" as a stranger comes knocking. Between Only Murders in the Building and Apple TV Plus' The Afterparty, which just added a slew of new stars including Ken Jeong and John Cho, it looks like the comedy murder mystery is experiencing a renaissance of its own right now. So, excitement for the next season of both shows is certainly high.
There's a lot of ground to be covered when Only Murders in the Building season 2 finally premieres, so eager fans will likely get all they were hoping for and more when the day finally comes. Here's hoping it retains all the charm and intrigue that made season 1 such a hit.
Only Murders in the Building season 2 premieres June 28th, 2022, on Hulu.
