One of the highlights of Indian cinema that makes it stand out (truly) is its ability to jump from one scene to the next without the Western rules of rhythm and tempo, and with its own way combine dance with tragedy, laughter with thriller and comedy, and…. at times seem peculiar, and in some way, this sense of humor so ironic in its take does not fail to leave us bemused.
It isn’t that ‘Monica, O My Darling’ is the best movie in Bollywood, but it has the virtue of offering us a thriller that has it all (that includes dance numbers) making it if anything into something different to what we are used to. Here we have a cocktail of drama, comedy, thriller, sci-fi, and musical. So there is no denying that it is definitely entertaining.
‘Monica, O My Darling’ goes all in at being “peculiar” and manages to so beyond the Bollywood signature. It is structured as a thriller (almost) classic. The script is intelligently pieced together, and it translates well onto film with a good tempo, sequences, and maintaining its tone, that at times is far from wonderful, but all in all makes for a movie that is appealing allowing the viewership to have a pass time with something different to what we are accustomed to.
This film is amusing, very characteristic, and will give you a different viewing experience.
