From Cowboy Bebop and Death Note to Mob Psycho 100 and Erased, Netflix is home to many live-action anime adaptations fans can’t help but be curious about enough to tune in.
It’s not every day that the anime community gets to see their favorite piece adapted into an anime and live-action title, so we’re sure that the same hype Netflix’s previous live-action adaptations received will be comparable to the excitement the upcoming My Hero Academia film will receive, too.
That’s right! Netflix is currently in the process of producing an action-packed film of the beloved shounen anime series. And while most details of the project are still under wraps, we do know one or two things about the release that will definitely get you pumped.
Here’s everything to know about Netflix’s live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia.
Since the film is still in its early stages, an official cast isn’t confirmed just yet. But, according to The Hollywood Reporter, we do have an idea of the masterminds behind the project.
Joby Harold, producer of The Edge of Tomorrow and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, serves as the writer for the film. Working alongside Harold as the director and executive producer is Shinsuke Sato, the same talented director who brought us Kingdom and the smash-hit series, Alice in Borderland.
With Harold and Sato on the scene, it’s safe to say this adaptation is already in good hands!
We don’t expect Netflix to adapt every single episode (and manga chapter) of My Hero Academia, as doing so will take an incredible amount of time and resources. But we do think the upcoming release will cover the basics of the anime, including the origins of the protagonist, Midoriya “Deku” Izuku, the basics of the war between heroes and villains, and, most importantly, the rise and fall of All Might, My Hero Academia‘s knight in shining armor.
In addition to these important details, we expect the adaptation to cover a few important story arcs. “Entrance Exam Arc,” “Quirk Apprehension Test Arc,” and “Battle Trial Arc,” to name a few.
While it would be nice to receive this film in 2023, we unfortunately don’t have a release date just yet. We wouldn’t put it beyond Netflix to aim for a fall 2023 release date. But a winter 2024 date also sounds very possible. We’ll find out soon enough!
We’re sure to know more details about the story of this Netflix film, so stay tuned for more details about My Hero Academia‘s live-action film!
