'House Party' (2023) Movie Review: Unnecessary, but Enjoyable – Martin Cid Magazine – Martin Cid Magazine

House Party is a 2023 comedy movie directed by Calmatic starring Tosin Cole, Jacob Latimore and Karen Obilom.
House Party is a remake of the movie directed by Reginald Hudlin in 1990. This time around, the screenplay is written by Stephen Glover (emblematic creator and star of Atlanta) and Jamal Olori.
This is a remake that looks exactly like a remake and which does not want to fail the original, is so faithful to it that it lacks a justification for being made in the first place.
House Party is likeable, just about, pleasant in an average way and well done, with inteligent rhythm and lines. Is it better than its predecesor? This is a good opportunity for those who do not know the first version, to watch this humdrum story that (relatively) changed the way in which movies were made in the Nineties and which now, with the same features is equally “enjoyable”. Not at all original at any rate however.
A film that does not invent anything nor wishes to do so and, as is the case with almost any comedy, bases itself on the inspiration of its actors who don´t let one down nor do they fail in its spirit.
Unnecessary, yes: just about enjoyable too (if you haven´t seen the first version, we insist).

Movie title: House Party
Movie description: Aspiring club promoters and best buds Damon and Kevin are barely keeping things together. Out of money, down on their luck and about to lose the roofs over their heads—and freshly fired from their low-lift jobs as house cleaners—the pair needs a huge windfall to make their problems go away. In a ‘what the hell?’ move, they decide to host the party of the year at an exclusive mansion, the site of their last cleaning job, which just happens to belong to none other than LeBron James. No permission? No problem. What could go wrong?
