High School Musical‘s Bart Johnson and This Is Us actor Jon Huertas’ new horror movie Initiation has released its first trailer.
As you might have guessed given its title, the film takes place on a university campus, where a bunch of youngsters find themselves targeted by a masked killer who seemingly bullies them online and stalks them, before taking them out in grisly ways.
You know, with power tools and the like…

Described as an “edgy slasher about a cruel social media game that spins out of control”, the film takes place during a university’s pledge week, as the carefree partying turns deadly serious when a star athlete is found impaled in his dorm.
The murder ignites a spree of sinister social media messages, sweeping the students and police into a race against time to uncover the truth behind the school’s dark secret, and it’s up to three sorority sisters to discover the killer’s motives and stop the bloodshed before they wind up victims themselves.
Initiation also stars Lindsay LaVanchy (NCIS: Los Angeles), Riverdale‘s Lochlyn Munro, One Day at a Time‘s Isabella Gomez and Teen Wolf‘s Froy Gutierrez.

Harking back to his HSM days, Johnson is once again playing a coach, Miles Cooper, while Huertas takes on the role of police officer Rico Martinez. Yancy Butler (Witchblade) plays Martinez’s colleague Detective Sandra Fitzgerald.
Directed and co-written by John Berardo, the movie is inspired by his short film Dembanger, which explores the potential dangers of putting a lot of personal information about yourself on the internet.
Initiation is scheduled to be released on DVD and digital platforms in the UK on May 24.
